Biography

Melanie Goisauf is researcher at the Department of Science and Technology Studies. She studied Sociology at the University of Vienna and at Royal Holloway University of London. She completed the post-graduate programme „Sociology of Social Practice“ at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) in Vienna. She was involved in research projects in a variety of fields at the Life Science Governance Institute (LSGI), the University of Graz and at the Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI). Since 2008, she is lecturer for qualitative research methodology and theory at the Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna. Melanie is a member of the Task Force Societal Issues in BBMRI-ERIC Common Service ELSI.

Current Research Interests

Melanie Goisauf is currently working in BBMRI.at (Biobanking and BioMolecular resources Research Infrastructure Austria). Her focus is on ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) of biobanking and related questions of governance. Her research activities include the analysis of data gathered in Citizen-Expert-Panels. In BBMRI-ERIC, Melanie is involved in conducting a Europe-wide survey to identify challenges arising from ethical, legal or social developments in the field of biobanking.
