The registration period begins on 1 September and ends on 27 September 2017, 17:00. De-registration without any notice is possible until 17 October 2017, 17:00.

Social Studies of Science is a thematic specialisation of the current doctoral study programme of the Faculty of Social Sciences. At the department PhD theses are supervised by Prof. Ulrike Felt.

The department offers special courses for PhD students, which are also held regularly by international scholars from the field of science and technology studies. Beyond this, the annual international summer school at „Raach im Hochgebirge“ is an integral part of the doctoral training in Science and Technology Studies in Vienna.

Funding

PhD theses at the Department of Science and Technology Studies are funded through research projects as well as the two prae-doc positions. There are two additional possibilities for funding for doctoral candidates:

  • uni:docs Fellowship: The uni:docs fellowship programme is an individual scholarship which aims at funding excellent PhD candidates for a period of three years. Students from Austria and abroad who are considering applying for this scholarship for a thesis in Science and Technology Studies should get in touch with Prof. Ulrike Felt as early as possible to ensure supervision and feedback before the application process.
  • DOC Fellowship: The doctoral fellowship programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences aims to enable young, excellent doctoral candidates from all disciplines to carry out their dissertation project at universities in Austria. Students considering applying for this scholarship for a thesis in Science and Technology Studies should get in touch with Prof. Ulrike Felt as early as possible to ensure supervision and feedback before the application process.


Visiting PhDs and Post-Docs: In addition to the scholarships above, PhD students and post-docs can spend a few months (up to year) at our department to be part of our vivid international STS community. This stay can either be self-funded or funded through the Österreichischen Austauschdienst (OeAD) Please send your (informal) application with pertinent information to Ulrike Felt (copy to Maximilian Fochler) as early as possible to ensure feedback before the visit.
