Miller Oswaldo Díaz Valderrama, MSc.
Biography
Miller joined the STS Department in October 2024 as a PhD student and PraeDoc researcher. Miller is interested in understanding how data infrastructures enable, foreclose, and are enacted alongside specific ways of imagining and understanding climate change, its knowledge, and governance. His research focuses on exploring how scales are produced and managed in technoscientific projects that work on climate change adaptation and the building of data infrastructures for “data-driven decision-making” in Climate and Health. But also, what practices, futures, and whose knowledge become possible in the enactment of the versions of locality that working with data entails.
He studied Sociology and a Master's in Social Studies of Science at the National University of Colombia and has worked as a qualitative researcher on scientific software development projects in Latin America.
In his master's thesis, he ethnographically explored the practices of touching, handling, and knowing-with the judicial technology of the file in the Constitutional Court of Colombia, from where he became interested in thinking from the perspective of infrastructures, invisible work, care, and one of the fundamental political questions of STS: who benefits?
