A 30-year research journey with patient organizations
Vololona Rabeharisoa, Centre de Sociologie de l'Innovation Mines Paris
Abstract
For the past 30 years, my colleagues and I have been exploring the involvement of patient organizations in the production of knowledge, and the transformative effects of this involvement on the governance of health and on patient activism. I will present the main findings on this research work on the relations between patient organizations and credentialed experts, notably what my colleagues and I call “evidence-based activism.” I will also revert to the articulation between my doing of academic research and my positioning as a researcher working with patient organizations over this 30-year research journey, to foster the democratization of health.
