Reimagining Artificial Intelligence policy for societal challenges
Inga Ulnicane, University of Cambridge
Abstract
Technology development has not only the speed but also purpose and direction. To analyse how purpose of AI is framed, this talk examines AI policy through the main paradigms of technology policy: economic competitiveness and societal challenges. Both paradigms can be found in AI policy that presents AI as a global race to dominate the world as well as a solution to the most pressing problems of our times in areas such as climate change, health, and energy. Against this background, this talk invites to move beyond technical fixes and reimagine more collaborative and inclusive ways of co-shaping AI for addressing societal challenges.
