Biography

Since March 2022, Berit Wolff has been a research assistant in the BBMRI.at project at the STS Department of the University of Vienna. The project investigates how citizens and patients engage with biobanks in the Austrian context. It focusses on questions about the relations between biological data and citizenship, as well as valuation practices regarding biobanking infrastructures.

After a bachelor's degree in cognitive science, Berit joined the STS master's programme in October 2020. Her main interest is in the relations between sociotechnical artefacts and society, in particular how digital infrastructures, data, and information co-produce values, beliefs, and identities. Her master's thesis, embedded in the BBMRI.at project, explored how people who contributed to a biobank understand 'their' samples and data, the role of informed consent processes therein and the contribution's embeddedness in a wider societal context.
