Dr. Susanne Oechsner
Biography
Susanne Oechsner is researcher at the Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS), University of Vienna. She holds a Magister diploma in Cultural and Social Anthropology from the University of Vienna and is about to finish her PhD in Science and Technology Studies. Her main research interests are located at the intersection of the production of technology and society, with a special focus on ICT, the aging society and gender. She has extensive experience in qualitative research methods (ethnographic methods, qualitative interviewing, group discussions). Susanne has worked as a researcher in the project RFID & Society, investigating the ethical and societal challenges of implementing localization systems of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technologies for intelligent process control (2014-2017). She has been part of the project team involved in BBMRI.at, investigating the ethical, legal and social issues in biobanking (2017-2019). Currently, she is working in the project Smart4Health (Horizon 2020), developing and performing the co-creation process in building a citizen-centred health data platform.
Research Interest
Susanne's research interests lie at the intersection of technology and society production, with a particular focus on sensor technologies, datafication and the ageing society. Her dissertation focuses on Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technologies. She investigates how the collective good for ageing societies and the persona of the user are negotiated and composed in different places and practices of technology production.
